Bordeaux - 58 Guineas Claret
An evenly split blend of the classic Bordeaux Varieties 33% each of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. On the nose its fresh and forward, with lively red fruit backed by good depth - true claret typicity, youthful but unmistakable. On the palate, round medium-bodied, perfectly balanced flavours of youthful red fruit with claret backbone, easily enjoyable on its own or with food. Ideal with red meat dishes and casseroles.
Languedoc - Cours La Reine Saint Chinian
Made using a blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache the wine is completely unoaked. In the glass the wine has a deepish red colour while the nose is a combination of blackberry, tobacco and toffee. The palate is ripe and round, with plenty of fruit flavours along with more subtle notes of herb and vanilla. A ripe tannin and a long flavourful finish and this is a wine which will sit as comfortably with white meat as it does red. A perfect BBQ partner this is a hidden gem!
Rhone - Delas Freres Ventoux
Delas Freres are a company based in the historic Northern Rhone and produced a range of wines from top to bottom in some of the best vineyard sites of the Rhone Valley. The Ventoux red from Delas is a lighter bodied Rhone made predominantly from Grenache with a bit of Syrah for body and sturcture. Soft red fruits dominate this easy drinking red. Soft tannins and an easy finish make it very drinkable on its own or with simple red and white meat dishes.
Alsace - Cave de Turckheim Sables et Galets Pinot Gris
A delicious and very expressive Pinot Gris from France's North East. Complex nose with violets, hints of acacia honey, quince, smokiness, sweet spices and crystallised ginger. The evolved palate opens dramatically with ginger notes and a lovely rich marmalade finish. A beautiful and often over looked wine from France, this is a great partner to Asian style flavours and mildly spiced dishes.
Loire - Nelly Marzelleau Les Grands Presbyteres Muscadet Sevre & Maine Sur Lie
Think Muscadet and you usually think 1980's throwback, permed hair, dodgy moustaches and mobile phones, complete with breifcase size battery pack. However scrap that image and try this. Domaine Les Grands Presbyteres are one of the foremost producers in the region based in St. Fiacre, south east of Nantes at the mouth of the Loire River. 100% (confusingly) Melon de Bourgogne - AKA Muscadet, this is a lean, citrusy and mineral wine, with green apple acidity and a lovely leesy note which adds texture and balance to the palate. Perfect with oysters, shellfish, or salads, this is a wine which brings Muscadet right up to date. Very enjoyable.
Burgundy - Jean-Pierre Seve Macon Solutre
Fantastic Domaine produced and bottled white Burgundy at affordable price from an extremely talented winemaker. With only 1 hectare of vines dedicated to produced this Macon, Pouilly Fuisse specialist Jean Pierre Seve deserves great credit for producing such a wine at an affordable price. A wine of great balance with tropical fruit notes, subtle oak and lees aged notes and refreshing acidity, this drinks well beyond it price point and is a great match for salads, fish dishes or roast chicken.
