Gasper Chadonnay/Rebula (Goriška Brda, Slovenia)
This Chardonnay/Rebula is a slightly unusual blend of 55% Chardonnay and 45% Rebula, or which 95% is fermented in stainless steel and 5% in large Slavonian oak casks. This small amount of oak fermentation adds a lovely texture to the wine which we found particularly attractive. The wine then spent several months in stainless steel tank after fermention was complete and did not undergo malo-lactic fermentation in order to retain the lovely freshness this wine is noted for. . The Ned Pinot Grigio (Marlborough, New Zealand)
The Ned Pinot Gris has a signature pale salmon blush and a bouquet of ginger spiced, nectarine and golden skin apples with the delicate floral lift of fresh cut spring flowers. Extended skin contact on a selection of the ripest fruit parcels is essential for promoting the signature salmon pink colour of The Ned Pinot Gris. Equally important is the positive effect this technique has on the wine’s depth of flavour and overall mouth feel; balance and drinkability is achieved via a fresh thread of Waihopai acidity and the long, lightly drying tannin tail. Contesa PecorinoColline Pescaresi IGT (Abruzzo, Italy)
Rocco Pasetti's superbly sited 25 hectare estate lies in the heart of the Collecorvino district in the hills northwest of Pescara, recognised as one of the best vineyard zones in Abruzzo. His range of impeccably made, fruit-rich wines combines warm and generous flavours with stylish, eye-catching presentation. The Caparrone wines are modern and easy to drink, yet wines of real substance. The Contesa range, produced in tiny quantities from selected parcels of the best grapes on the estate, are bold, impressive versions of Abruzzo's local grapes, Montepulciano and the up-and-coming white variety Pecorino. Delicate floral, stone fruit and citrus aromas lead on to a palate with fresh peach notes backed by a textural minerality, nutty characters, and crisp acidity. See more here
Wandering Beeste Syrah (Swartland, South Africa)
Mineral, fine and uplifting this vintage is another bony Beeste. 50% whole berry, 50% whole bunch, once again it is the bright acidity and fine tannins in the stems that lift the ripe Syrah fruit to a freshness and vitality seldom found in Swartland. The mean, slatey soils give further minerality to the palate which finishes long, broad and bright. Such a delight. Reminiscent of Northern Rhone and perfect with hearty red meats. See more here
Ramon Bilbao Edicion Limitada Rioja (Rioja, Spain)
Made using 100% Tempranillo and aged for 14 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, with another 10 months spent in bottle ageing prior to release, its deeply coloured with a lovely black fruited nose of cherry, plum, blackberry which is complimented by sweet spiced oak notes and a touch of black pepper. This follows through onto a velvety yet structured palate with polished tannins and a lingering finish. A beautiful bottle with lamb, roast beef or hard cheeses. See more here
Sileni Merlot (Hawkes Bay, New Zealand)
The vineyards and winery are based near Hastings, Hawke’s Bay - the oldest wine region in New Zealand - on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It has a southern latitude of 39° and a climate similar to that of some of the great wine regions of the world. Sileni Estates also source grapes from the well known wine producing area of Marlborough, including Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The Merlot is ripe and juicy with flavours of plum, blackcurrant with soft leather and silky tannins. A wonderfully easy drinking Merlot that is fantastic value for money. Try with some beef ragu and linguine. See more here
