Hubert Lamy Chassagne Montrachet Le Concis du Champ

We leave the finage of Saint-Aubin and make, with this excellent Concis du Champ, an incursion into the vineyards very close to Chassagne-Montrachet. Olivier and Karine Lamy farm 3 small plots, for a total of just under one hectare, planted with vines of about twenty years.

They have the particularity of being planted at a high density of 14,000 vines per hectare which promotes competition between the vines. Olivier thus seeks to promote deep rooting, but also to naturally limit yields and to obtain grapes that are certainly smaller, but ripe and concentrated.

Although the subsoil is still marked by limestone, on the surface the soil is more clayey and deep. With its slight slope and its dominant orientation to the South-East, this vine is quite early and traditionally starts the harvest at Lamy. In 2020, the grapes were harvested on August 20. The ripeness was homogeneous and the fruits were both juicy and well-concentrated.

This Chassagne always expresses an intense minerality, on smoky notes and a beautiful saline and empyreumatic finish. We also like the tasty density and concentration of the fruit that gives the mouth this fleshy and enveloping texture. White flowers blooming, jasmine, chervil, eucalyptus and verbena, a minty nuance, the wine carries, on the nose, a sophisticated vegetal dimension, all in nuances, mixed with a smoky touch evoking the gunstone and bread just out of the oven. The presence of citrus fruits asserts itself over the aeration, between lime and grapefruit, as well as the brilliance of the fruit, on evocations of juicy pear, crunchy apple and vine peach, associated with a honeyed nuance.

If the beginning offers a large volume of fruit, with a creamy touch, the feeling of energy is just as remarkable as on the other vintages: a true signature of this 2020 vintage at Olivier Lamy. We bite into superb fresh fruit, between vine peach, apples, kiwi, passion fruit, blood orange and lemon ... Purity, remarkable tension that makes the fruit and the soil sing, tracing finish, with its accents of gunstone and white pepper, of a bluffing length, this powerful and tapered Chassagne-Montrachet Concis du Champ outclasses many 1st Crus!
