From the Ardbeg Distillery to Port Ellen and beyond, follow the rocky coast and you will discover the heavenly vista of Traigh Bhan (pronounced tri-van). This captivating beach has soft white sands that sing beneath your feet, and a spellbinding hum that ebbs and flows with the winds and tides. But beguiling as this place is, do not drop your guard. Bathing here is ill-advised in the seemingly tame crystal waters where jagged, volcanic rocks pierce the sands along the shore.

The essence of Traigh Bhan is captured in this exquisite bottling. Like so many Ardbegs, it’s an iconic Islay location that has given birth to another iconic Islay dram. In a rare occurrence for Ardbeg, this aged whisky will be released every year and each one of these exclusive, small-batch bottlings will feature a unique batch code.

Every bottling of Ardbeg Traigh Bhan will have its own batch symbol. Inspired by various distinguishing features around the Distillery, batch codes will change with each release. For Ardbeggians who have made the pilgrimage to Islay, you may recognise where we got their inspiration…

Ardbeg Traigh Bhan is a bottling that perfectly embodies the place to which it owes its name. In a whisky of incredible contrasts where calm meets storm, experience seductively smooth beginnings before powerful notes emerge in an intense crescendo.

The epitome of an aged Ardbeg – matured in American oak and Oloroso sherry casks – Ardbeg Traigh Bhan effortlessly accomplishes… the impossible balance.Gentle ripples of smoky pineapple, sour cream and wood smoke sing to your soul. Aromas of newly planed oak and supple dark leather combine as sweet toffee and liquorice draw you in. A splash of water releases a swirl of extraordinary notes. Struck flint, herbal pine resin and coal tar effervesce towards citrusy lime and a hint of subtle, yet sweet vanilla cheesecake.

An intensely salty mouthfeel plunges your palate into smoky depths, before drifting into sweet and sour notes of smoked chilli chocolate and paprika. Surging waves of toasted oak and roasted tea leaves emerge before they subside revealing fresh peppermint fondant and salted white chocolate.

Bold but soothing notes of aromatic wood smoke carry you into a long, lingering finish – resonating far beyond the glass.

TB – Traigh Bhan, the beach known locally as the Singing Sands and the place that inspired this bottling.

01 – The batch number. With this number, you can identify each release of Traigh Bhan.

15.03.00 – The date indicating the age of the youngest spirit distilled each year. The year of the millennium bug threatened computer systems around the world, thankfully on the Isle of Islay, they were unaffected…

MH – The initials of a Distillery member who helped create the bottling for that year. This year’s bottling features their Distillery Manager, Mickey Heads. When this whisky was disgorged, Mickey remarked that the aroma was the loveliest he’d experienced in all his years.

With subtle changes in the batch recipe annually – as well as the ABV% – Ardbeg fans will enjoy exploring the finer details of this transformational whisky every time it comes around. This means that each bottle of Ardbeg Traigh Bhan is special, and once it’s gone, it’s gone.
