BIRD IN HAND NEST EGG MOUNT LOFTY RANGES SHIRAZ
Bird in Hand is a family-owned winery cultivating cool-climate wine that captures the spirit of South Australia’s Adelaide Hills. Bottled here and beloved the world over, we produce a varied portfolio of fine wines, each one deliberately designed to celebrate life’s pleasures.
The Nest Egg label is reserved for the most outstanding wines of the vintage, regardless of variety. Yields are kept extremely low to maximise flavour and tannin development.
A very limited bottling of stunning Adelaide Hills Shiraz; Nest Egg is loaded with bright parma violet and smoky bacon notes, whilst maintaining surprisingly subtle, delicate and impressive purity. On the palate, there are intense flavours of crème de cassis, black berried fruit and allspice. Evocative and mouth-filling, creamy vanilla oak from 22 months in barrel elevates the palate still further and ensures longevity. Taut and expressive, this has all of the attributes required for greatness. Awesome, showstopping, cool climate Shiraz from Bird in Hand.
The wine is deep red and has intense aromas of dark berries and spice with hints of black pepper. The palate expresses rich dark berries with spicy notes and silky tannins. A complex, powerful yet elegant cool-climate Shiraz. Matured in the finest French oak for over 18 months, this extremely limited wine will cellar exceptionally well and reward the discerning collector.
93 Points - Robert Parker
"Deep garnet-purple coloured, the 2013 Nest Egg Shiraz is profoundly scented of blackberry preserves, baked plums and Christmas cake with hints of liquorice and smoky bacon. Medium to full-bodied, rich and velvety in the mouth, it packs in the berry preserves and spice box flavours, finishing long and layered." Lisa Perotti-Brown
96 Points - James Halliday
"It's not exactly a cool climate style, but it does show traces of pepper and dried spice. Mostly though it's beefy, rich and substantial, with thick, long chains of tannin and rivers of both dark, berried, inky fruit and cedary, smoky, malty oak. Time is required to knit it all properly together but its future is supremely bright."
