Innovation, environmental awareness and affordability join hands in the FLUTTERBY range. Flutterby is packaged in a lightweight glass bottle that reduces the carbon footprint of the product without compromising on quality.

The grapes were selected from two different climatic zones namely the Paardeberg /Paarl and the cooler coastal area of Philadelphia. The grapes ripened at different times, illustrating the diversity of temperature between the two climatic areas. Grapes from the Paardeberg area’s shale soils had a longer hanging time before reaching physiological pip and skin ripeness. The temperature of these soils is cooler due to higher clay content and therefore contributes to the floral tropical components selected for the Flutterby Sauvignon Blanc. On the other hand, farms situated nearly 10 km from the ocean, produce grapes with a naturally high acidity due to the granite soils on which they grow. These soils have a warmer temperature and are well drained, yielding grapes with varietal freshness and a good natural acidity.

Harvested very early in the morning, the grapes reached the cellar in a perfect condition to ensure cultivar flavours were retained. After crushing, the grapes were cold soaked for 12 hours before settling, followed by inoculation with the fruit-driven yeast strain. The juice fermented very cold between 9 and 12 degrees Celsius for a period of 22 days. Fermented dry, the wine was left on the lees for a further three months, resulting in a wine with a full, creamy and lingering aftertaste.

On the palate the wine presents tropical litchi and fresh fruit aromas with integrated green pea and ripe fig flavours. The wine delivers a good ripe fruit expression with a smooth crisp finish. A typical fruit-driven style of wine for the consumer who prefers both the tropical fruit, and the fresh herbaceous styles of Sauvignon Blanc.
