The nose- one of the most complex fruit aromas in the world: explodingly ripe greenage and gooseberry; those who love sauternes finishes will appreciate the spiced apricot and layered sweetness. Back to top form with a masterful brilliance.
The taste- the arrival is pretty two-toned: on one hand is a juicy, sensual, fruit-tinged maltiness. By its side is a more bitter toffee kick; throughout is a fabulous spice rhythm.
The finish- almost treacle tart toffeeness.
The balance- a confusing malt: we have a nose that half the blenders of the world would give their right nostril for. And then we have a performance on the palate that promises but does not deliver to its potential. Lovely whisky, for sure, and it gets 90 points so it really is the dbs - and I dont mean distillery bottlings. But I wonder can anything be done about the duller toffee notes.
