Cave de Turckheim Vendanges Tardives Gewurztraminer
The Vendange Tardive classification prohibits acidification and chaptalisation - all of the residual sugar is natural from grapes grown on granite and gravel soils. 'Vendange Tardive', means 'late harvest' and describes the viticulture for this style of wine. The wine is only produced in specific years, when extended periods of dry weather allow the grapes to dry out on the vine, concentrating the delicious citrussy aromas.
A more savoury, earthy nose than previous vintages. Bright and sweet on the palate, orange-blossom and delicate citrus peel flavours. Lemony acidity and a sweet, slightly pithy finish.
A genuine Bakewell Tart would be an interesting option ... or any fruit based pies or crumbles. It could also work with rich and spicy foods (not too much chilli!). A favourite is chocolate brownie with salted butter!
