Chateau Canon la Gaffeliere Premier Grand Cru Classe B Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2019

The estate
Château Canon-La-Gaffelière is a prestigious wine estate founded in the 17th century in the Bordeaux region. Located south of the medieval city of Saint-Émilion, Château Canon-La-Gaffelière has been under the direction of Stephen von Neipperg since 1983. A member of a German family involved in viticulture for almost 8 centuries, Stephen von Neipperg manages the Château Canon-La-Gaffelière with great passion and talent, through a resolutely modern approach to viticulture.

The vineyard
Situated at the foot of a hill, the estate has a 19.75-hectare vineyard planted in clay-limestone and clay-sandy soils. Managed on a parcel-by-parcel basis, the atypical vineyard receives all the necessary attention and is certified for organic farming.

The winemaking
Harvest from September 19 to October 7. Vinification in oak vats. Extraction by pneumatic punch-downs. Fermentation for 35 days.

The ageing
Ageing in new French oak barrels (60%). Ageing on fine lees.

The blend

Merlot (49%), Cabernet Franc (39%), Cabernet Sauvignon (12%).

96 Points Robertparker.com

The 2019 Canon la Gaffelière has turned out brilliantly, bursting from the glass with a dramatic bouquet of wild berries, blood orange, exotic spices, rose petals, violets and burning embers. Full-bodied, ample and layered, it's supple and perfumed, with a deep core of lively fruit, melting tannins and a long, saline finish. This contains the highest proportion of Cabernet Franc of any of Stephan Von Neipperg's wines, which no doubt helps to account for its singular personality. Drink Date 2025 - 2050
