Château Fontarèche Vieilles Vignes Rouge Corbières
Chateau Fontareche Vielles Vignes Corbieres Rouge shows notes of black fruit and very true to type. Wild on the nose with bramble and sweet spice more structure on the palate than the nose suggests. Mineral and taut on the finish. Classy.
Just north of Lezignan-Corbieres and situated in the middle of a perfect square of 200ha of land is the fourteenth-century Chateau de Fontareche one of the oldest estates in Languedoc.
Respect for terroir is the philosophy that drives the work in the vineyards and it is therefore hardly surprising that the principles of Lutte raisonnee and complete traceability have been applied to the estate for the past 15 years. In 2004, 11ha were given over to organic agriculture with a view eventually to converting the entire property.
Fontarèche, which takes its name from the Latin “melting turgid” (the fountain that springs), is one of the great historic estates of Languedoc wine.
In the inventories of the Archbishop of Narbonne, one detects the presence of vines in 1350 Fontarèche soon.
