Chateau de Fesles Anjou Chenin Sec La Chapelle 2017 £17.10
CHATEAU DE FESLES ANJOU CHENIN SEC LA CHAPELLE 2017An emblematic property of Anjou, the Château de Fesles and its wine estate were built in the 11th century at the top of the 4th highest point in the Loire Valley. Its exceptional geographical position as well as its proximity to the Layon river allow it to produce wines with a distinguished and complex character. The vineyard of this wine is 50ha located in the heart of Anjou, in the Loire Valley and is 100% Chenin Blanc based on Schist and Phtanite. This cuvée is made exclusively with grapes from the fabulous "La Chapelle" plot, the most qualitative of the Fesles vineyard. After a manual harvest resulting from two selections, vinification in 400-litre oak barrels, aged 2 to 4 years, for 1 month. Then ageing on fine lees for 6 months, with weekly stirring. The Anjou Blanc from Château de Fesles offers a straw-yellow wine with brilliant reflections. It has an intense nose with dominant fern, lime blossom and elderberry. Very nice taste balance, around a round and silky attack. No clearly perceptible acidity. The aromatic complexity is expressed on dried fruits, elderberry and toasted bread. Very long persistence. To be enjoyed between 10°C and 12°C. Goes very well with fish in sauce, multiple shellfish grilled or cooked in court-bouillon, or white meat in sauce.
