DOMAINE BESSA VALLEY ENIRA

This vintage is a blend of  Merlot: 31% Syrah: 48% Cabernet Sauvignon: 2% Petit Verdot: 19% (compared to the previous vintage which was a blend of Merlot 40%, Syrah 50%, Petit Verdot 10%).

Beautiful garnet red color. The nose is intense, complex and overwhelming. Fragrances of dried fruits, leather, smoke and vanilla are found.

Unique flavor profile, excellent structure built from soft tannins resulting from aging in French oak barrels. The wine is very well balanced with a long memorable finish.

Try with roast meat of varying sorts including game, or with a good cheese board.

The 2010 Enira is a blend of 40% Merlot (notably reduced in favor of Syrah from the prior vintage reviewed this issue), 50% Syrah and 10% Petit Verdot, all aged in used French oak for 12 months (mostly second- and third-use). This is just lovely and a fine bargain. Feeling full in the mouth with refined tannins (but a real backbone), this is impeccably balanced, very flavorful (with restrained oak impact) and simply a pleasure to drink. A little earthy complexity pops up on the finish and the velvety texture is rather sensual, too, although it becomes much crisper with aeration. This is easy to like. The nice price should enhance its appeal. 

Bessa Valley is co-owned by Stephan von Neipperg (with Dr. Karl Hauptmann) of Bordeaux fame. He owns Château Canon La Gaffelière, La Mondote, Château Clos de lOratoire (Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe) and Château Peyreau in Saint-Emilion, plus Château dAiguilhe (Cotes de Castillon), and Clos Marsalette (Pessac-Leognan). The winemaker is Marc Dworkin.

The winery says that: During his childhood, Stephan von Neipperg shared Bulgarian wines in family during Sunday meetings. His grandmother was a huge fan of Bulgarian wines and thats one of the reasons why Stephan von Neipperg was keen to set up Bessa Valley project. Bessa Valley was created to offer Grand Cru quality at affordable price.
