Domaine Lucien Muzard Et Fils Santenay 1er Cru 2017
Domaine Muzard belongs to a very old family from Santen, where we have been winemakers from father to son for nine generations (Jacques Muzard in 1645). Claude and Hervé Muzard today operate the 17 hectares of the family estate, spread over different climates in Santenay, Chassagne Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault and Pommard. The operation has kept traditional methods (manual harvesting) while improving quality thanks to new techniques (harvesting in boxes, sorting tables, controlling temperatures during vinification, etc.). All the aging of the wines is done in barrels and in oak casks with a distribution, according to the vintages; 20 to 30% new barrels. Premier Cru la Maladière is just a few dozen meters north of Santenay. The vines occupy a stony soil of cracked limestone covered with marl, with a slope and an orientation to the south and the east. In other words, a favorite terroir for Pinot Noir, which the Muzard estate cultivates with the greatest care.
The color is a nice medium-deep ruby. The nose is complex and dominated by red fruits (cherries, raspberries, etc.) with light woody notes as well as touches of hay and dried flowers. The palate is supple and delicate, the tannins are very refined. The fruit aromas are found on the palate and persist for a long and balanced finish. A wine of finesse and elegance.
