Famille Perrin Nature, Organic Côtes-du-Rhône
The Famille Perrin wines are classic examples of the villages of the Southern Rhône and the consistent winemaking of the Perrin family. The combination of vibrant fruit and a strong expression of sense of place underlines the value these wines offer.
The Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge Nature is a blend of Grenache and Syrah, sourced from organically certified vineyards which are located between Valréas and Vaison-la-Romaine, north of Orange. The vineyards are planted on chalk and clay soils that lend depth and purity of fruit to the wine.
The 2020 vintage in the Southern Rhône was favoured with excellent weather conditions. Winter was mild with one single episode of frost during the night of 24th March (only the early ripening plots were very slightly affected). Spring conditions were quite warm and very windy, which helped to keep growing conditions healthy. Summer temperatures were lower than in 2019. Cool, humid nights and constant wind helped to maintain fruit health. Harvest began early in the final week of August, under ideal conditions, and each plot was harvested at perfect maturity. 2020 was a generous vintage in terms of both quality and quantity and produced juicy fruit with excellent acidity levels.
Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were carefully sorted and de-stemmed. Fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks ranging between 150hl and 190hl, at controlled temperatures, with regular pump overs to extract both colour and flavour. After fermentation the wine was aged for 12 months in both used oak barrels and stainless-steel vats before blending and bottling.
This wine is a deep ruby in colour. The expressive nose displays aromas of violets, dark fruit and strawberries, with hints of black pepper and thyme. The palate is juicy and approachable, with supple tannins that linger on the finish.
