Garagiste Cotier Gewurztraminer Mornington Peninsula 2017
Vines are trellis trained in the Vertical Shoot Positioning system on a North facing slope, on sand and brown loam soils. Organic principles are at the heart of everything Garagiste do.
The grapes underwent 100% whole-bunch fermentation for 26 days. After maturation in old oak for 9 months, the wine was bottled unfiltered and with only minimal sulphur.
The nose opens with notes of lychee, rose petals, talc, ginger and a briary spice punch, which complicates the classic Turkish delight aromas with gnarly-edged notes of orange oil, reedy grass, cinnamon, glacé fruit and amaro spice – in fact, there’s a distinct echo of Amaro Montenegro here. Grape tannin folds in, taking the place of acidity and giving this a fresh, moreish and food-happy angle, with a layer of glycerol and softness giving it flex and texture.
