Glaetzer Amon Ra Shiraz
Ben Glaetzer is by far and away one of our favourite winemakers and we've always been privileged to have great access to his wines.
Over the years we have rarely, if ever, been disappointed by his produce. And once again, this wine is a spectacle to behold. Unsurprising to be fair, this is his flagship wine, his Pièce de résistance.
The wine is a bold expression of the utter power and complexity achievable from some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the northerly Ebenezer region of the Barossa. One for the future!
Try with rare roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with a horseradish, chives and creme fraiche dollop.

Deep garnet-purple coloured, the 2014 Amon-Ra Shiraz has a youthfully mute nose, offering glimpses at the blackberry, blackcurrant and liquorice core, plus suggestions of dark chocolate, cigar boxes, fertile earth and baking spices. The full-bodied palate delivers concentrated, muscular blackberry and earth flavours with plenty of freshness and a beautiful backbone of finely grained tannins, finishing with commendable persistence and layers. This is a great contender for wine of the vintage!.

Terrific wine until you swallow, whereupon you feel the burn of alcohol. Its no disaster; the wealth of blackberried, tar-like fruit sees surely to that. Indeed in all other ways, the wine is immaculate.
