GREYWACKE WILD SAUVIGNON BLANC MARLBOROUGH 2015
A new release by Kevin Judd the former chief winemaker at Cloudy Bay.
Fermented using wild yeasts (hence the name) The Wild Sauvignon is an oaked Sauvignon in a similar vein to Cloudy Bays Te Koko Sauvignon Blanc.
The complexity and balance on this wine is stunning. Stone fruit, peach and toasty aromas develop into a palate which is quite full, round and with a slightly savouryness. This is certainly not a typical Marlborough Sauvignon, and nor should it be! A real treat of a wine.
Greywacke, ‘Wild Sauvignon' Marlborough 2015, New Zealand
This Wild Sauvignon is an absolute stand out wine with those subtle yet distinctive, slightly funky notes you get from a wild ferment (as opposed to using cultured yeast, a wild ferment is regarded as riskier but results in more complex wines) that marry so brilliantly with the subtle spicy oak. On the nose and palate are notes of green pepper and passion fruit with a long, layered, complex finish that rewards contemplation.
