*Only a few bottles remain of this museum vintage release Bordeaux blend from one of Clare Valley's top producers. *

Planted at 570 metres, at the highest point of the Clare Valley, the vineyard is an elongated triangular wedge of emerald green that sits above the rolling golden cornfields of the Clare Valley.

2008 produced some outstanding quality fruit which offered great potential, provided harvesting occurred at the precise moment the grapes were ready. The Grosset winery was redesigned four years ago to deal with the most extreme seasons when harvesting must occur very quickly. Such were the conditions in 2008 when, due to extreme weather on the horizon, there was a small window of time in which fruit needed to be harvested.

The grapes were hand picked, crushed and de-stemmed, then fermented for 7-8 days in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Gentle plunging of the cap took place to aid extraction of colour and tannin. The wine then passed into French oak barriques (50% new oak) and aged for 18 months. It was bottled without fining or filtering and aged for a further year in bottle before release.

Austerity, structure and densely packed fruit are hallmarks of the red blend produced from this site. Broodingly fragrant, it has briary, brambley flavours that are powerful, concentrated and opulent. There's a fleshy smoothness to the mid-palate and substantial, yet fine, tannins on a finish of considerable power.

James Halliday 94 Points

An estate-grown blend of Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc/Merlot with a fragrant, almost flowery, bouquet; the accent on fresh fruit remains the central theme of the bouquet and palate alike. Easily evaded the heat bullet of ’08.
