Chatelain Ramel Grande Cuvee Minervois (Languedoc, France)

Dominated by Carignan, this is a Minervois that will WOW the senses and really impress with its value for money.  The fruit for the Ramel Grand Cuvee was sourced from the Domaine de la Baquiere Estate, within the heart of the Languedoc Wine Region. From 23 hectares of vineyard on the slopes of the Montagne Noire Mountain range where the Ramel-Mazard family winemaking dates back to 1726, forming traditional methods of production, with the fruit harvested by hand and each grape variety vinified separately in stainless steel.   This is medium/full bodied with a bright ruby edge. Interesting and attractive nose, sweet blackberry, plum notes with a smoky, meaty complexity. Cherry notes too.  Medium weight palate with sweet blackberry fruit, mocha and cherry tones. Tannins are grippy but well balanced and the 14% alcohol is well integrated.  All around a very good bottle for the money.  Would suit Duck really well, or slow-cooked red meats stew style dishes.  See more here

Les Costieres De Pomerols Saint- Peyre Picpoul De Pinet (Languedoc)

This wine comes from vineyards planted on sun-drenched hillsides called “costières” on the Mediterranean near the Etang de Thau – a coastal lagoon situated between the port of Sète and Marseillan. St. Peyre’s Picpoul offers big but focused and refreshing flavour elements of melon, lemon and grapefruit. It’s a terrific aperitif, but is truly celebrated with all shellfish and seafood, as well as full-flavoured white meat dishes, cheeses and cured meats. It is greenish- pale yellow, with enticing aromas of lime, smoke, honeysuckle and white flowers, bright and smooth, medium-bodied, with a grapey, quite dense mouth feel, a nicely integrated acidity and a very clean, lengthy finish. See more here

Chateau Vieux Barrail Bordeaux Superieur (Bordeaux)

Château Vieux Barrail is a traditionally styled Merlot-dominated Bordeaux Supérieur. Located near the village of Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens, this estate is proof that Bordeaux can still take on the New World in the value for money stakes. Bright ruby red colour; pleasant aromas of red berries on the nose; a palate filled with excellent juicy fruit, round and mellow tannins. Well balanced and easy to drink wine for everyday pleasure. Eminently food-friendly, this balanced fruity red makes a great partner for rich red meat stews, steak in peppery sauces or full-flavoured cheeses. See more here

Caves de Loire Wally Anjou Chenin Blanc (Loire Valley)

The grapes were sourced from the Anjou area in the Loire Valley, just south of the city of Angers. The vineyards are planted on Sologne clay and sand which lend the elegance and power of the finished wine. On the whole, this was a very hot vintage. There was rain in June, but then the summer remained very dry until harvest. These conditions meant the grapes ripened evenly and were in perfect condition for the early harvest. See more here

Delas Freres Ventoux Rouge (Rhone Valley)

Delas Freres are a company based in the historic Northern Rhone and produced a range of wines from top to bottom in some of the best vineyard sites of the Rhone Valley.  The Ventoux red from Delas is a lighter-bodied Rhone made predominantly from Grenache with a bit of Syrah for body and structure. Soft red fruits dominate this easy-drinking red. Soft tannins and an easy finish make it very drinkable on its own or with simple red and white meat dishes. See more here

Cave de Turckheim Edelzwicker Vin d’Alsace (Alsace)

Widely regarded as one of the best co-operatives in the world, Cave de Turckheim lies at the mouth of the Munster Valley. Working closely with 180 partners, its vineyards span the full breadth of Alsatian terroir and grape varieties. Cave de Turckheim only produces wine from the grapes of its member growers, it is a récoltant, not a négociant. Pneumatic pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation, no finings and minimal filtration all help to preserve the pure varietal character of the wine. Here classic varieties Pinot Blanc and Riesling have been blended with the less well-known Sylvaner grape which brings delicacy and satisfying acidity. A delicious and complete white blend with delicate green fruit flavours, plenty of fleshy texture and a light, refreshing and savoury finish. Brilliant with delicate and aromatic Asian salads and fish dishes and a match made in heaven with Tarte Flambée or Flammkuchen! See more here
