Altolandon Mil Historias Garnacha (Manchuela)

As the lands start to rise, inland northwest of Valencia, you will find Roselia Molina heading up Bodegas Altolandon. The property consists of 120 hectares with the winery resting right in the centre, not only making it aesthetically satisfying but also extremely practical. At 1,100 metres above sea level, the altitude serves to benefit the grapes with large diurnal variations which encourage even ripening and also helping retain their natural acidity. Organic methods are used to manage the vines utilising only natural fertilisers and some green pruning to further guarantee the quality of fruit prior to hand-harvesting.  See more here

Bodegas Naia K-Naia Rueda Verdejo (Rueda)

Located on the left bank of the River Duero, the winery dedicates itself to the production of high-quality white wines from their meticulously cared for vineyards, most of which were planted more than 40 years ago in the district of La Seca, one of the most highly renowned 'cru' of the region. With its 23.5ha of vineyards, and through working closely with local growers, it also has access to vineyards between 80 and 130 years old. See more here

Bodegas Vina Elena Familia Pacheco Organic Monastrell (Jumilla)

Widely considered to be one of the best wineries in Jumilla, Viña Elena is very much a family affair with Elena Pacheco at the helm supported ably by her mother, sisters and children. Viña Elena sits directly inland from the Costa Blanca and that venerable holiday destination, Benidorm. Safe to say, it is hot in this south east corner of Spain and Elena is fascinated by Monastrell and how she can create ever more elegant and delicate incarnations of it, despite the intensity of the sun.  See more here

Ortega Ezquerro Rioja Blanco (Rioja)

The Ortegas are one of those families of cosecheros that have managed to adapt to modern times, preserving their philosophy of quality and craftsmanship in their wines and adapting to present-day oenology. A rather early harvest to ensure acidity and freshness in the wines. After harvest, the grapes are kept in maceration with the skin under cold temperatures during some hours. After this time, we proceed to the “bleeding” or the division of the must and solid dough, and a subsequent pressing. As the last step must make alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature between 11 and 15ºC. See more here

El Coto Crianza Rioja (Rioja)

El Coto was founded in 1970 in Rioja Alavesa and has grown from modest beginnings into one of the best known Rioja producers. Today El Coto has over 700 hectares of vineyard in production across the three Rioja DOCa sub-zones of Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa. They also source grapes from all three areas, but mostly from Rioja Alavesa. Head winemaker César Fernandez oversees production, starting with hand-picking into 350 kg crates to ensure the grapes arrive at the winery in pristine condition. Modern and intelligently designed, the emphasis in the winery is on temperature control and gentle handling of the grapes.. See more here

Bodegas La Val Orballo Albarino (Rias Baixas)

This Rias Baixas pioneer was founded in 1985 and has made its name over the past two decades for producing classically-styled, great quality, Albariño. There are five sub-regions in Rias Baixas. Bodegas La Val are based in Condado do Tea - away from the coast and just over the Portuguese border. In 2003 they built a brand new winery in Arantei, over-looking the Miño river, and equipped with the most modern winemaking technology. Vines are around thirty years old, and are grown on the Pergola system, as is typical in the region. This aids ventilation of the grapes, protecting them from excess humidity and mositure. All fruit is hand-harvested. See more here
