Henri Champliau is a family home located in Mercurey, heart of the Côte Chalonnaise in Burgundy. Founded by Alexandre GRAFFARD, grandson of Henri Champliau, they offer Crémant de Bourgogne, made from traditional methods from noble grape varieties, Pinot Noir & Chardonnay and a range 'Signatures' with the same quality requirement specific to the house.
Petrone 68 is one on the house's 'Signature wines' a tribute to Henri Champliau's passion for horse racing. Petrone was a famous horse trained by the family which won a grand title in 1968, hence Petrone 68.
Made in the South of France using the Charmat Method for a fresh, fruity and appealing style unusally horizontal vats are used for the production which favour the contact of the lees and the grapes and give a fuller more balanced wine as a result. This meant secondary fermentation and aging took 3 months to obtain a homogeneous mousse with rich fruity aromas and weight.
Tasting Note: Abundant bubbles, a nose with aromas of pear and apple, a tender yet full mouth that ends up on a nice freshness with citrus notes. This wine is friendly and can be enjoyed for any occasion and even be used in the preparation of cocktails.
A lovely next step up if you're a fan of Prosecco and want to try something different.
