Hinch Distillery 15 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish Batch 1 700ml

Located just south of Belfast in the grounds of the beautiful Killaney Estate. The distillery takes its name from the nearby town of Ballynahinch, whose name in Irish translates as ‘town of the island’.

Within the Hinch Distillery design, they have incorporated many unique elements which will both validate their ‘craft’ credentials and also position themselves as key innovators within the Irish whiskey category.

Our 15 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish Batch 1 is a combination of 2003 malt whiskey aged in ex-bourbon casks and finished for a year in 1st fill Oloroso sherry casks, along with a 2008 grain whiskey matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished for two years in Oloroso hogsheads.

Bottled at 46% Vol, non-chill filtered, and with its natural colour intact, this limited batch release is a rare find.

Nose

The olfactory senses are greeted with a harmonious blend of aromatics that deftly marry the spicy and fruity realms. A deep inhalation reveals the unmistakable presence of charred oak, imparting a robust foundation that is beautifully complemented by the delicate, almost ethereal, scent of pear drops.

Palate

As the whiskey caresses the palate, its full-bodied nature becomes immediately apparent, offering a rich tapestry of flavors to explore. The initial impression is one of opulence, as a complex blend of dried fruits unfurls in the mouth, evoking images of sun-drenched orchards and the bountiful harvests of autumn. This luscious fruitiness is skillfully interwoven with the unmistakable warmth of wood spice, adding layers of intrigue and sophistication to the tasting experience. Toasted notes emerge, reminiscent of a crackling fire on a cold winter's night, while hints of candied orange weave through the profile, providing a burst of brightness that lifts the spirit.

Finish

The journey concludes with a finish that is both satisfying and lingering, a testament to the masterful aging process this whiskey has undergone. A sweetness reminiscent of ripe berries gently fades, leaving a subtle yet unmistakable pepperiness that tingles on the tongue. This final note is a fitting end to a remarkable tasting experience, leaving an indelible impression and a yearning for the next sip.
