Iona

In 1997 Andrew Gunn, an engineer by training stumbled upon a solitary run down apple farm on a mountain top overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The prospect of a suitable farm in Elgin intrigued Andrew and on driving through the valley, he became excited by the beauty of the area. Based 420 metres above sea level, Andrew established that the climate was somewhere between Bordeaux and Sancerre in France with lower rainfall than most of the rest of the Cape wine lands, making it a perfect spot for quality wine. He set about creating a vineyard with first vines planted in 1998.
