Jummare Organic Nero d'Avola
Over a third of Italy’s organic vineyards are found in Sicily. The hot climate and breezy conditions mean that disease pressure in the vineyards is low, one of the reasons why many Sicilian growers have embraced organic practices. In the hills around Menfi, there are close to 1,000 hectares of organic vineyards, so it was relatively easy to select the best of these vineyards to use as the base for the Jummare wines.
The vineyards are situated in the Menfi area, at an altitude of 280 metres above sea level. The soils are a mixture of sand and limestone. The vines are Guyot pruned.
On arrival at the winery, the grapes were crushed and destemmed. Fermentation took place at 18-22°C for 8-10 days. The wine was aged in barriques for six months.
Dark ruby in the glass, this wine expresses beautiful notes of ripe forest fruit, blackberry and cherry on the nose. On the palate, it is fresh, pulpy and pleasantly savoury. The soft tannins provide structure and there is a long, balsamic finish.
