Laphroaig 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 70cl £49.20
 LAPHROAIG 10 YEAR OLD ISLAY SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKYA full-bodied, smoky gem, with a residual sweetness and a hint of salt amidst the seaweedy, peaty characters before a long warming finish. A classic dram. Jim Murrays Whisky Bible; 90/100 The nose- Impossible not to nose this and think of Islay: no other aroma so perfectly encapsulates the island- clean despite the rampaging peat-reek and soft oak, raggy coast-scapes and screeching gulls- all in a glass. The taste- one of the crispiest peaty malts of them all, the barley standing out alone, brittle and unbowed, before the peat comes rushing in like the tide: iodine and soft salty tones. The finish- the nagging bitterness of many ex-allied bourbon casks filled during this period is annoyingly apparent here. The balance- has reverted back slightly towards a heavier style in more recent bottling, though I would like to see that old oomph at the very death. Even so, this is, indisputably, a classic whiskey.
