3 Wines from Appellation village to Grand CRU in Aloxe-Corton

2 x Aloxe-Corton Domaine Latour 2017

Aloxe-Corton has been the home of the Latour family and the heart of Domaine Louis Latour for centuries. The village of Aloxe-Corton is located in the north of the Côte de Beaune on a stony hillside at the foot of the hill of Corton. It was in 1862 that the name of the climate Corton was added to the village name Aloxe. The vineyards of Domaine Louis Latour surround this famous village and yield a classic Aloxe-Corton.

A medium cherry red intensity, this village appellation has pronounced aromas of ripe red summer fruits, freshly crushed raspberries and redcurrants with subtle oak flavours. The palate reveals a supple yet firm tannic structure, balanced by generous fruit concentration, spice and black pepper and a long, elegant finish. A wine which expresses its typicity of origin.

2 x Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru "Les Chaillots" 2017

Aloxe-Corton is the home village of the Latour family who has been closely involved in the affairs of the commune for over three centuries. Of the total hectarage of this Premier Cru, the Domaine Louis Latour control over 90% of production centred on the famous Château and cuverie of Corton-Grancey. These vines are an important part of the Domaine Louis Latour. The name "Les Chaillots" refers to the stony, pebbly nature of the soil in this vineyard, as "Caillou" means pebble in french. There is an alliance in the wines of Aloxe-Corton between the finesse of a Côte de Beaune and the mellow, powerful appeal of the Côte de Nuits.

Of a deep ruby colour, their Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru "Les Chaillots" 2017 offers a complex nose mixing aromas of black cherry, coffee, undergrowth and liquorice. The palate is smooth and velvety. An elegant wine with light toasty notes and mellow tannins.

2 x Chateau Corton Grancey Grand Cru 2017

"Grancey" was the name of the last owners of the chateau situated on the road of Corton before the Latour family bought it in 1891. This wine, produced by Maison Louis Latour, is unique and exclusive. It is a blend of four areas of Domaine Latour Corton Grand Cru: Bressandes, Perrières, Grèves and Clos du Roi, the proportions of which vary depending on the vintage. The average age of the vines is over 40 years. After ageing individually, only the best barrels are assembled to create the Château Corton Grancey. It is a wine that is produced only if the grapes are of a perfect maturity, vintages judged inferior are systematically declassified.

Of an intense ruby colour, their Château Corton Grancey 2017 offers a powerful nose with aromas of cassis, blackberry, liquorice and clove. The palate is generous, fresh with elegant tannins and discreet toasty notes. A very nice balance.
