A really lovely Chilean Merlot for this price. Much more elegant than the wines you usually get at this price point. The nose offers up notes of blackberry and red currants, along with a little greenness.
The palate is flavoursome and soft, with fruity flavours to the fore, but also hints of chocolate and tobacco. Very ripe and round on the finish, with great length.

The 2010 Montes Alpha Merlot, blended with 10% Carmenere, has a touch of greenness on the nose, while the palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a juicy blackberry, cigar box and soy-tinged finish that shows good persistence. This is a commendable Chilean Merlot. Drink now-2016.
