MOURNE DEW DISTILLERY THE POOKA IRISH POITIN BLEND NO 1
The No1 is a blend of malted barley and wheat spirit. They use our vacuum distillation machinery to take out the unpleasant clemicals normally found in poitín (but which are actually essential for long term whiskey maturation) and cycle it through a series of oak casks to give it a light oak taste with notes of bourbon, rum and sherry.
Serve the No1 blend as you would a whiskey. Over ice, with a drop of water (their preference as the dilution opens up the flavours), with ginger ale etc. (They think it lends itself to being used in cocktails as it has a lighter flavour than whiskey and combines better with other flavours) If you'd like to try a really interesting variation then serve it with equal parts No1 blend,and Rostrevor Ruby Irish Gin and three parts cranberry juice (or more/less as you prefer) with plenty of ice. It's a variation of a classic cocktail called a 'Rock Lobster'! (Alternatively, given the terrible weather, you could always suggest making a hot poitín!)
