Remo Farina Amarone della Valpolicella Montefante Riserva

The Remo Farina Amarone della Valpolicella Montefante Riserva 2017 is a magnificent embodiment of craftsmanship and tradition, originating from the heart of Italy’s revered Valpolicella region. Nestled within Veneto’s rolling hills, Valpolicella is celebrated for its winemaking heritage that dates back centuries. This region's unique terroir, characterized by limestone-rich soils, abundant sunshine, and cooling breezes from nearby Lake Garda, provides an ideal environment for the cultivation of premium grapes that make this Amarone an exceptional representation of its origins.

The Farina family has deep roots in Valpolicella, with a legacy that spans generations of meticulous viticulture and an unwavering dedication to quality. Established in the mid-20th century, the Remo Farina estate has become synonymous with traditional winemaking practices enhanced by innovative techniques. Their commitment to preserving the authenticity of Valpolicella wines has allowed them to produce celebrated vintages that seamlessly combine history, passion, and the region’s distinctive characteristics.

The Montefante Riserva 2017 exemplifies this dedication through its meticulous production process. From an exceptional vintage the wine is crafted using the classic Appassimento method, where carefully selected grapes—primarily Corvina (the dominant variety), Corvinone, and Rondinella—are harvested by hand and dried on racks for several months. This process concentrates the flavours and enhances the natural sugars, lending Amarone its signature richness and complexity. After fermentation, the wine is aged in a combination of large oak barrels and smaller barriques for an extended period, culminating in a mature, refined profile that reflects both patience and skill.

In the glass, the Remo Farina Amarone Montefante Riserva 2017 reveals a deep garnet hue, hinting at the robust character within. On the nose, the bouquet unfolds with an intricate blend of dark cherry, dried plum, and fig interwoven with notes of dark chocolate, tobacco, and sweet spices. Subtle hints of leather and forest floor add a layer of earthy sophistication.

The palate is equally captivating, showcasing an impeccable balance between power and elegance. Rich, full-bodied flavours of ripe blackberries, spiced black cherries, and preserved prunes are accented by touches of cinnamon, vanilla, and toasted oak. Its velvety tannins are well-integrated, offering a harmonious structure that supports the wine's opulence without overpowering it. The finish is long and enduring, leaving a lingering echo of dried fruit and warm spices that invite reflection with each sip.

The Remo Farina Amarone della Valpolicella Montefante Riserva 2017 is a wine of great depth and character, perfect for pairing with aged cheeses, hearty game dishes, or simply savouring as a centrepiece to an evening of indulgence. This wine embodies the essence of Valpolicella, celebrating the art of winemaking with every glass poured.

94+ Points - RobertParker.com

The Remo Farina 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Monte Fante (with a gold-colored wax capsule) shows a relatively contained bouquet with red fruit aromas and spice that don't necessarily jump out at you in the manner of your average Amarone. That restraint comes with elegance, and both traits are especially characteristic of this vintage. This alternative will appeal to those who love the power of Amarone (this full-bodied wine has a 16% alcohol content) without the brawn. There are pretty mineral notes on the close and a seemingly dry finish. This is a very enjoyable wine, with 10,000 bottles made.
