SICHEL SAUTERNES 2020 DECLASSIFIED BORDEAUX
Declassified Bordeaux from one of the top producing Châteaux.
Subtle hints of apricot, honey, white roses and Clementine on the nose. On the palate the there is peach, honeysuckle and stony minerality and a touch of orange. Gorgeous acidity and astounding length round out this ridiculously balanced and precise wine. Drink now or enjoy over the coming 20 years.
This is a wine that will astound and delight in equal measure. An absolute treat.
Exceptional value.
Why do Chateaux declassify?
Well, the reason is all about keeping the price of the “big wine” up, as all the Châteaux can produce more wine than they actually want to make available, so if (for example purposes only of course) Château Insert Famous House Name can make 10,000 cases a year they maybe only want to sell 6,000 cases a year at full price in order to keep the prices up through rarity. The excess production is then “declassified” to the lowest possible level for the production area then sold off at a fraction of the price under a basic merchant label in order to keep stock moving and free up storage space.
