Susana Balbo Ben Marco Expresivo
BenMarco is the viticulturist’s wines and part of Susana Balbo Wines portfolio. Susana Balbo Wines is a family winery, founded in 1999 by Susana Balbo, the first female winemaker in Argentina. The winery portfolio also includes Crios by Susana Balbo, Susana Balbo Signature, and Nosotros.
BenMarco wines are produced under Edgardo ("Edy") Del Popolo’s leadership, an Argentinean wine industry veteran and one of the most respected and consulted viticulturists in Argentina. A skilled taster, he has been designated as a judge at many international wine competitions. At the beginning of 2013, he was appointed General Manager at Susana Balbo Wines and, since then, he has been making BenMarco wines according to his vision.
Gualtallary is one of the highest points not only in the Uco Valley or Mendoza, but in all of Argentina. Its vineyards exceed 1,500 meters in height, and this altitude allows the vine to be exposed to a cold and austere climate, giving it a strong and intense character. In addition to its low temperatures, this area is recognised for its calcareous alluvial soils.
The Gualtallary estate, located within a complex geological area, is divided into two portions, which are called Monasterio and Albo. In addition, five type profiles and twenty-one plots with different characteristics have been delimited within it. As a result and expression of this terroir, BenMarco Expresivo Gualtallary is a linear and fresh wine, composed mainly of Malbec and with a touch of Cabernet Franc. With aromas of blackberry, aguaribay (Mendozan tree) and violets, it stands out for its mineral notes, balanced natural acidity and firm tannins and for its great ageing potential.
The characteristics of this wine make it an excellent pairing for red meats, roast pork loin, hard cheeses and most cream-based sauces.
