VEGA SICILIA PINTIA TORO

There are people who believe that the myth of Vega Sicilia was due to its being an aristocratic wine, in scarce supply, and only within the means of a fortunate few; an object of desire that only a privileged minority could enjoy. However, what many do not know, is that the real origin of the legend lies in a story of hope, commitment and patience on the banks of the River Duero, as it runs through the heart of Castilla, where the river laps against and nourishes a unique and exceptional, nearly magical estate.

Pintia is located on the banks of the river Duero, about a hundred kilometres from the original Vega-Sicilia estate, and it belongs to the Toro DO, characterized by hot summers. The soils of the vineyards are both complex and poor, with their outstanding feature being the large amount of pebbles.

This region produces wines with a marked personality and structure. As part of Vega-Sicilia's determination to achieve the elegance which is a by-word of Vega-Sicilia, it is essential to choose just the right time to harvest so as to safeguard the freshness of aromas and the wine's acidity.

Low precipitations in winter (much lower that average) and absence of heavy frost. Bud break 15 days late but a very fast budding. High temperatures in spring that help recover from the delay and flowering without storms and winds caused a good fruit set. Grape ripening in mid-August with extremely high temperatures and no precipitation that kept the cycle going. Warm harvest.

During the ageing process they aim to fine-tune this personality by undertaking a hundred percent of the malolactic in barrels of both French oak (70%) and American oak (30%), which is always new. The wine then settles in the bottle until it is perfect for drinking.

Pintia is a wine of great colour intensity and profound layering. It has a frank, expressive nose, with intense fruity aroma mixed with a subtle woodiness. These are wines with a very noticeable structure, but which are simultaneously voluptuous and pleasing.
