Vina Cobos Bramare Marchiori Vineyard Chardonnay 2017 £34.95
VINA COBOS BRAMARE MARCHIORI VINEYARD CHARDONNAY
Limited Edition release by Vina Cobos, Argentina. A very elegant wine that comes from the famous Marchiori Vineyard in the wine region of Mendoza.
Hand harvested grapes hailing from the Perdrial vineyard in Lujan de Cuyo at 1000m above sea level create this wine which is then ferented in barrel and aged for a further 12 months in French oak (35% new) prior to bottling unfined.
The result is a wine brilliant yellow in colour, with flecks of gold. The nose has aromas of white flowers, white-fleshed fruits like pear, peach and pineapple, and butter. The palate has body and mouthwatering acidity, with a rich, creamy texture. Hints of vanilla and cocoa unfold in the mouth, resulting in a round and complex mouthfeel with structure.

One of three Chardonnays I tasted and one of two single-vineyard ones, the 2016 Bramare Marchiori Estate Chardonnay has been produced for longer and is sourced from 20-year-old vines in the Marchiori Vineyard that belongs to the family of one of the ex-owners of Viña Cobos, in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo. Since they decided not to filter the two top Chardonnays in 2016, this might show a little cloudy, but at the same time, it shows more complexity, combining volume with great elegance. This feels very complete. They have started harvesting a little earlier, and that seems to have been something they liked and are going to continue doing here and in other wines. As with the other wines, they are also lowering the percentage of new oak used and are introducing 500-liter barrels, which have a different ratio of wood to wine. It's clean, characterful and very tasty, with good concentration from older vines. 2,760 bottles produced.
