With the first planting of their vineyards in 1969, Wakefield set out on a journey to create authentic estate grown wines. nothing prepared them for its overwhelming success, with the first vintage awarded a gold medal in every national wine show entered. while the range has since grown to include more varieties, every bottle is still crafted at our clare valley estate with the same care and attention as that very first vintage.

The aromas of this wine are undeniably those of a Cabernet Sauvignon. Cinnamon, spice, cloves and chocolate intertwine with sweet juicy black berry fruit. Complex, slightly savoury elements are also present with rich cassis along with tobacco and cedar from maturation in French Oak.This is a wine of considerable generosity. The palate has abundant sweet fruit, which is juicy and full in character suggesting a vintage of substantial quality. The classic hallmarks of Cabernet Sauvignon characters are evident - ripe berry fruit, cassis, perfume, cinnamon, spice and tobacco along with fine-grained tannins.

This wine can be enjoyed upon release but will reward careful cellaring up to and possibly beyond 2023.

90 Points Wine Companion

Fermented in stainless steel Potter tanks, then pressed to oak to complete mlf, and subsequently matured for 12 months in a range of new and older French barrels. Very clear varietal expression on show, with blackcurrant, cedar and mint prominent. Full and supple on the palate with some sweetness of fruit, it finishes strongly with lingering flavours and ripe tannin.
