Woodstock McLaren Vale The Stocks Shiraz 2016 £42.50
![]() WOODSTOCK MCLAREN VALE THE STOCKS SHIRAZWine brands come and go, yet Woodstock Wine stands as sturdy as the stocks it was named after. A pillar of the McLaren Vale wine region, Woodstock has lovingly committed to capturing the essence of their regional home in a bottle since 1973. It begins in their old McLaren Vale vineyards, this love for capturing quality, and carries through every process from the vine to the bottle. From a single vineyard and 100-year-old+ vines comes this flagship for the Woodstock winery. In the glass, the wine is deep in colour. The wine is earthy and sophisticated. Slightly savoury with a lovely cherry flavour, complemented by tree bark and a smoked bacon flavour. This is a full bodied, rich and perfectly balanced, the tannins are fine but firm. The finish is long and layered. 91 Points - Wine Companion It's rich, full-bodied and loaded with flavour emanating from fruit, which comes off 100+yo vines, plus the abundance of dominating oak, a mix of new/used French/American hogsheads, aged for 18 months. Expect plum essence, currants licorice and while it's dense and intense, it retains freshness. Jane Faulkner 94 Points - The Real Review Deep, dark colour, with a fragrant oak-infused aroma. Full-bodied, intense, bright and lively, it has concentration as well as a modicum of elegance. Superb focus, intensity and length. A big wine which manages precision as well. Huon Hooke
